I finally finished the embroidered nappies! These are from the Opulent Monsters diaper pattern. Of course, I'm not happy with them! The designs are all too high up, and I messed up the PUL pocket for the embroidery. I layered it up wrong, but the backside of the embroidery is fully enclosed inside the PUL pocket, which is probably the most important thing. I'll sell them all at a discount though, since they're not perfect.
After talking about how great the design for the pocket in this nappy was, I re-read the instructions and realised that I sewed it wrong. Here's how it's supposed to look. I'm not sure I like it this way. One of the advantages of sewing it wrong was that you could hold the nappy by the wing and the insert would just slide out. This way you actually have to open the pocket and rummage around to pull the insert out. I also think the PUL panel is a bit too large. The whole front section of the nappy is now waterproof, which isn't much good if you have boys who have a habit of peeing upwards.
I also discovered that using microfleece as an inner creates a lot of bulk when it comes to folding the rise snaps down. The pattern does recommend using a wicking jersey though, which would solve that problem I'm sure. I'm hoping to get some of that soon so I can try it out. It sounds like it might not be fun to work with! If it's jersey then it'll probably be stretchy.
Here's the finished nappies that I'm planning to upload to my shop.
This is the feathery heart one, although you can't see it very well. I found some touchtape so I thought I'd try that. The wings get narrowed slightly for the touchtape version of this nappy.
I love this design! I especially like how the fabric that's left in the 'wild' part seems to puff up, making it look 3D. I think I'll make a more boyish version with greens or blues.
I discovered that the benefit of this type of pocket opening is that it's pretty good at holding a pre-fold in place. After I realised that the PUL part was going to show so much I decided to use a black piece to match the black microfleece for this one.
The dream catcher bits are so pretty! He might look nice in pinks and purples too.
I'm having to pay back a very expensive sewing machine, so most of my personal spending money is going towards that, but I have a small amount of money available to buy some things for my shop. I'm not sure if I should buy some more embroidery designs, or some fabric. People who visited my shop also searched for baby dungarees and I had been considering adding something like that. A lot of people seem to be selling trousers that fit over cloth nappies, but there aren't so many people selling dungarees. Should I buy some fabric for that?
My shop had its first sale today! Just this morning I was saying I wasn't sure what I'd do if I sold something. Probably keel over in shock. Right about the time I was photographing these items, I sold something! Yay!!! I'm just going to get the parcel ready to send. There's a Saturday pick up here, so hopefully they'll get it on Monday. While I've been absent from this blog I've been doing creative things like mail art. I'm probably not supposed to mail art up customers parcels though. I'm glad to have finally sold something!

I love this guy! Again I think he might look nice in greens or blues, or even pink and purples for a more girly design.
