Baking

Ok, its not sewing, but its creative. I baked two things yesterday.

1) A chocolate brownie cake. Doesn't it look delicious?

Unfortunately it tastes gross! It was too crunchy on the outside and not cooked properly in the middle. My oven really doesn't like baking cakes. What a waste of organic chocolate.

2) A kind of spur of the moment banana loaf. It was supposed to be a banana and chocolate chip loaf, but I'd used all the chocolate chips in the brownie cake. E chopped up some white chocolate and we used that instead. At least it cooked properly.

On the sewing front, I had some mini piping arrive from Australia just recently. Some pink to finish off a dress for E and some light blue satin mini piping for a Christmas outfit for R. I also bought the cream coloured fabric for R's outfit, but I don't really like it. It feels all rough and itchy. Might get a chance to start it on Wednesday.

I've also been looking at some German patterns. I might buy one to make something for E.

Got to rush...

Yay! I sewed

Yes, can't believe I actually managed to finish something. Baby was asleep, so I took the chance to clean my overlocker and re-thread it. It went very well for a change. Usually all the threads get all tangled or it doesn't thread right. He was still asleep so, I thought I'd get on with actually sewing something.

Baby R sleeps in my bed, and occasionally his nappy leaks, or he decides to barf. Its a pain changing the whole bed, so I thought I'd make a waterproof sheet.

Here he is in his little corner of the bed.

I made the sheet with a layer of waterproof PUL fabric, a layer of Warm and Natural cotton wadding and a layer of flannel on the top. I intended to use white for the backing, since it wouldn't be seen, but I had none left. For some reason I thought I had loads. If I had more time I'd have done the edges in a matching colour of thread, but since I was in a hurry I just used white. I was going to actually quilt the wadding to the flannel, but, again that would have taken more time.

I'm pretty happy with it. Its not the loveliest thing I've ever made. The teeny little one is a practice one I made to check if the tensions were ok. Its not even sewn straight, but E has taken it to use for her Sylvanian Families to use. Apparently its a picnic blanket for them.

I've decided to start a new sewing blog, although I doubt I'll be updating it very often. We have a new baby. He was 5 weeks old yesterday. I barely have time to eat or have a shower, nevermind doing any sewing! I still have lots of ideas for future projects, so I'll note them down here.
