Nanowrimo is over for me.

My laptop just died.  It was going pretty badly anyway.  I changed my mind about what I was going to write on the first day - then I was ill for over a week, so I fell way behind.  Then I realised that my new idea basically had no plot, so it was really a drag to write.  I managed to get to about 17,000 words.  Now the hard drive has gone on my laptop.  It was kind of old.  I got it in 2004 and it wasn't new then.  My other two 50k+ novels are on that hard drive, and pretty much anything else I've ever written.  But I'm not too sad about it.  They are still in my head.  I could always write them again if I wanted to.

While I was ill I did some smocking.  I started on an unfinished project.  Now I'm not going to be writing for the rest of the month I am going work on some sewing instead.  It's a bishop dress I am working on, so once the smocking is done it just needs a couple of bits of sewing to finish it off.  I have 2-3 other almost done dresses.  I will work on getting them done.

I didn't get any good pictures from Hallowe'en detailing the costumes I made.  This is S - wearing his mask the wrong way round.  The elastic should be on the inside.

This is E in her girl superhero costume.  The tops on both costumes were very very short.  E wasn't supposed to have red hair either.  We just sprayed it on last minute.  It doesn't really match!

A not very good pic of everyone.  You can't see the capes very well or the boots I made.  E was wearing her own pair of boots over a pair of orange and black striped tights.

A few more things...

This top is made from Blessed Designs #1002. It is a nursing top. You lift the top layer and there are extended armhole openings in the white layer. Very good for keeping your stomach covered! It was so fast and easy to make! I will definitely make this again, but next time lengthen it by quite a bit. It's too short on me. Because I am small it makes me look even shorter! I think if I wear a longer top it'll make my body look longer and I'll look taller. The pink fabric came from my stash. I've had it about 4 years. It's not really my colour though. I just really wanted to try the pattern out. The hems were done on my sewing machine. I was too lazy to set my overlocker up to do cover stitch. I think they look pretty good and quite professional. Picture is a bit blurred though. One morning a few months ago I woke up and just randomly decided to sew this! I neglected my house for the day to sew it. It had just been waiting for snaps. It's f...

Sewing related injury!

Was just merrily sewing some wipes on the overlocker when there was a big bang. A needle exploded, scattering tiny sharp bits everywhere! Got stabbed in the boob!!!!!! Well, at least it wasn't my eye. I have cloth wipes now :-) LOTS of them! As soon as I have fished all the pieces of needle out of the machine and replaced it I can finish sewing the rest of them. I think I've done about 35 so far. I'm hoping to stop buying disposable products in an effort to be more eco-friendly. I won't need to buy disposable baby wipes any more. I had stopped buying kitchen roll, but M just bought some. To clean the windows he said. But I think flannel fabric will do a better job. I might make some "un-paper towels" for using in the kitchen. And I think i might make a small stack of cloth napkins for the children to use at the table. Not fancy cloth napkins like you'd get at a restaurant. Probably just some flannel squares to wipe their hands on. I'm also working on a...

Some Goodies!

Before I start, may I direct your attention to my word count -------> 49,100! Only 900 words to go!!!!!!!! Alright, these are some things I got just recently. Some fabric from Purely Patchwork. Got some fabric for something I'm making for my mums birthday and some Christmas fabric too, to make some Christmas nappies. I spent a whopping £5.99 on a reel of variegated Christmas coloured thread. And I got some pins and needles. Moving on... a delivery of stuff for my new obsession from The Japan Centre in London. I've got 3 child sized bento boxes, farm themed plastic cups, farm themed mayonnaise containers, paper cases, rice ball maker, triangle paper cases, soy sauce bottles, teddy bear mould - for cookies, cutting sandwiches or a mould for rice, star and heart egg shaper and cocktail stick sort of things. Aren't they so cute!! They're for picking food up, like sliced sausage, or maybe fruit that's a bit messy. These are the sauce bottles, it says you can...
